In the House of Commons Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, ex - Chancellor of the Exchequer, enquired whether before the end of the session facilities would be given to discuss Mr Henry Hob* house's motion calling attention to Mr Chamberlain's fiscal proposals, and asking for the production of papers*
The Prime Minister (Mr A. J. Balfour) replied that a discussion ad dressed to no particular motion whereon it was possible, to vote "Aye" or "No" would be useless and of no value. Nothing would be gained by adding another to the many abstract discussions of the past.
Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, in reply to this, laid streßS upon the fact that Mr Chamberlain had invited the House and the country to discuss the question.
Mr Balfour responded by challenging the Leader of the Opposition to move a vote of censure.
