U. de Whifcte, Russian Minister of Finance, has accepted the principle of the construction of a bridge spanning the Strait of Yenikale, near Kertch. The length of the bridge will be 26:25 yards, and the cost of the undertaking is estimated at seven million roubles (about .€740,000). [The Straits of Yenikale connect the Sea of Azoff with the Black Sea. The proposed bridge will unite the Crimea with Russia's Caucasian provinces, and save a long detour in communicating with the European portion of the Empire.]
