HOSPITAL CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held yesterday afternoon,, the members present being Messrs W. H. Macey (chairman), A. W. Jaiokson, J. B. Green, M. Murray, H. Hammond, O. Purkiss, S. M. Neville, and E. J. Bell. HONORARY STAFF. Dr. Walker wrote- that he understood the Board contemplated ' appointing an honorary staff to the hospital, and if that was their intention he applied to-be placed on same. ". Mr Green moved that Dr. Walker foe appointed to the honorary staff, and that any other medical men in* the ■ Wairau district who applied be also placed on the staff. This was carried, an amendment that the application be first of all referred to the medical officer not finding a seconder. ACETYLENE LIGHT. Mr P. W. Adams wrote with regard to the lighting of the hospital by acetylene light, renewing his offer of April 14th last to light the hospital for £98 10a and the Fever Ward for £14. It was Resolved that a Committee consisting of. Messrs Green, Bell, and Neville make full enquiry into the matter and report to the next meeting. PICTON BOARD DISPUTED ACCOUNTS. Mr Green reported that Mr Bell and he had conferred with two members of the Picton Hospital Board on the matter of the disputed accounts between the two Boards, and, after spending some time on the matter, they had come to the conclusion that the discrepancies between the two Boards on the accounts was so great that there was no prospect of a settlement being effected. They therefore recommended that steps be at once taken to settle the question through the medium of the Magistrate's Court. The report was adopted. BY-LAAVS. Owing to Mr Priddle's absence the notice of motion, re the new by-laws, standing in his name was deferred until next meeting. CHARITABLE AID. The Charitable Aid Committee reported that the allowance to two widows had been increased ; au old man had been granted an extra allowance for rent; support since .his discharge from the hospital had been arranged for another old man; that a widow's allowance for rent be stopped and she be requested to live in the Board's cottage; that another widow be asked to show cause why her allowance should not be stopped ; and that the allowance given a single girl had been stopped, she having been sent at the Board's expense to a Rescue Home in. Wellington. The report was adopted. HOSPITAL GROUNDS. The sum of £10 was voted for expenditure on tree planting, etc., at the hospital ground. Mr Neville being deputed to supervise the expenditure. BUILDING ALTERATIONS. It was resolved that a new window be placed in the sci'llery to provide more light. VISITING COMMITTEE. The Visiting Committee reported that some new mattrasses and pillows were required. It was resolved that the Matron be empowered to obtain same and to report to the Board what number of bedsteads are required. PATIENTS FROM OTUER DISTRICTS. Mr Bell brought up the question of patients from other districts still being admitted to the hospital, and asked if the Picton Board had been advised that three patients at present in the hospital, belonged to their district. It was explained that the names of such patients only eatno to the Secretary a clay or two beforo the Board meeting and an endeavour was always first of all made to collect the fees from the parties themselves. After some discussion on the matter, a motion by Mr 801 l was carried that when a patient is admitted into the hospital who belongs to any other district the medical oflicer at once inform the Secretary, who will then advise the Board concerned that such patient has been admitted into the Wairau Hospital.
Accounts ware passed for payment and the Board then adjourned.
