Japan is pressing for the opening of the town of Wija, at tbe month of th» Yalu River, in Korea Bay, to trade* The Korean Government pleaded that Russia objected. Japan replied that the decision in the matter was vested solely in Korea.

A protest was also lodged by Japan against Russia laying a cable from Autung to Yonganpho, in Western Korea, without consulting Korea, as a breach of Japan's vested interests.
