Melboubne, June 19.
Despite the opposition of the Government, which sought to make the adoption of the decimal system dependent upon its adoption by Britain, the House of Representatives, by 21 votes to 18, adopted the report of the Decimal Coinage Committee.
Subsequently Sir Edmund Barton (Federal Premier) submitted a series of resolutions urging the adoption of the metric system with the least possible delay within the Empire, and that the most convenient method of obtaining it would be for the Imperial Government to enact its compulsory use within Britain, and for all other parts of the Empire where the Legislatures approve. The resolutions were carried.
