At a meeting of the unemployed called by the Mayor to-day strong exception was taken by several of th« men to the appointment of the Sergt* of Police as labor agent for the district) and the following resolution was car* ried:—That this meeting respectfully wishes to call the attention of the Minister of Labor to the fact that the Labor Office being attached to the Police Department completely robs ifc of any virtue it was intended it should possess for the advantage of those who are deserving of the benefits it can bestow, in short, that the better class of the unemployed absolutely refuse to recognise this office while under police supervision, feeling, no doubt, that they may become acquainted with ifc soon enough without being driven to the police by the Government.
