MAJOR-GENERAL SCHAW.

Pi ess Association. Electric Telegraph. Copyright. Wellington, August 15. Major-General Schaw, formerly of the Royal Engineers, died in Wellington last night, aged 73. He served in the Crimea, and occupied several important military poitions at Homo. When he retired in 1887 he was Inspec-tor-General of Fortifications and Secretary of the Royal Defence Committee. Some years ago he advised the Government of New Zealand on the defences of the Colony. The cause of death was heart disease.
