Mr Chamberlain in the morning inspected and addressed 150 Haussa troops.

He was driving in the evening from the House of Commons to his club when the horse slipped, projecting Mr Chamberlain against a hansom window, causing a severe but not dangerous cut. The cut extends three inches across the centre of the forehead, outwards.

Mr Chamberlain remains at Charing Cross Hospital a day or two, needing quiet after the shock.
