At the Municipal Conference, on the motion of Mr Brown (Oamaru), it was decided that section H5 of the Act of 18'JG as to Including a reclaimed foreshore in a borough shou d bo restored in the Municipal Corporafcious Act of 19:. 0.
The Auckland delegates brought up several proposed amendments of the burgess rolls regulations, only one of which was carried, viz., that requiring the Town Clerk to put on tj>e burgess list the name "of every person whoso nan'e appears on the valuation list as the occupier of a rateable property for the year then next ensuing."
The Governor Ins invited the delegates to {government House at 5 p.m. on Tuesday to discuss a scheme for the establishment of a Veterans,' Home. lie will entertain the delegates at luncheon at 1,30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Wellington City Council has asked the delogites to luncheon at BelJavae Gardens, Lower llutt, on Thursday.
The Municipal Conference resolved that the power conferred upon denominations to direct as to the use of ground, the time of interments, and the erectio t of monuments iv that portion of cemeteries set apart for such denominations should be restricted in cases where the cemetery is provided by and ecntrolled by the Jocal body.
Motions proposed by Sydenham in regard to committees' powers and the retirement in rotation of councillors were rejected, and tnolio's regarding the temporary me of loan money and the paymeut of compensation for damage by an inspector was referred to a committee to report on.
O'her proposals by Sydenham re gar.ling the position of councillors who are e'tetal mayor and tho sanitation oi' churches were rejecfwJ.
Other resolutions agreed to were, that in the event of a tie an election shall bo determined by the returning officer placing the names of the two candidates in the ballot box and drawing out one publicly at the declaration of the result of the poll.
Jt was resolved that the cost of the equipment and upkeep of fire brigades be borne equally by the local authorities, the lire insurance companies, and the Government; that the power to let market charges bo extended from the three years fixed by the Aeb to seven years; that the penalties providing for nuisances and other similar offences under the Public Health Act 1900, bo amended to agree witli the penalties imposed for breaches of the by-laws dealing with such oJTenees under the Municipal Corporations Act; that sec tion 3.10 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1900, bo amended to provide for tho protection of inhabitants of ruinous buildings ; that the duty to provide hospitals for infected persons and contacts imposed upon tho local authorities by tho Public Health Act, I'JOO, be transferred to the hospital boards.
