ESTABLISHED 1866. The Marlborough Express PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING MONDAY, JUNE 30, 1902. THE KING.

Latest ndvices from London as to the King's health are reassuring. The Royal patient is progressing as favour ably as can be expected, and although tJiere must continue to be great anxiety until a complete convalescence has boon achieved, the intense gravity ol tho position is now much lessened. All that tho finest medical skill that England can accomplish, is, we maybe sure, being done for His Majesty. Meanwhile the prayers of a sorrowing nation are going up to the King of Kings that the life of one of the most amiable and justly popular of earthly monarchs shall be spared, and we can only pufc our trust in the Almighty and abide by his august ruling as to the Kingly fate. It is a matter ot intense satisfaction that the medical experts have declared that the inflammation was only local and that there was no organic disease. The King, it is true, is a man of a certain age, but he has already proved more than once that he Ins an excellent constitution, and unless unexpected developments occur there is, we should say, very fair reason for belief that His Majesty will make a speedy and safe recovery. Of course it is very greatly to be regretted that tho Coronation functions and festivities have had to be postponed. After all this is a minor matter as compared wifch the all important question of the King's health. Meanwhile it is pleasing to note the general chorus of sympathy which has gone up throughout Europe, and, indeed, in all parts of the world, and the kind expressions of regret which have found utterance in France and Germany may tend to the growth of a better ali round international feeling. We sincerely trust that each successive day we may receive better news of Efts Majesty.
