The " breakingup" festivities of the Mahau (Pelorus Sound) Skate aided school took place at the schoolhouse, Mahau, on Saturday evening last. Mr Arthur Simpson, Chairman of the Pelorus Sound School Committee, presided. Some sixty of the Sound residents, in addition to the scholars, were present. Mr F. C. Stratford, the schoolmaster, received many congratulatory remarks on the progress made by the pupils since the time he has had control. The proceedings took the form of a concert, supper, and concluding dance. At the former instrumental, vocal and recitation items were contributed by F. C. Stratford, M. Greensill, C. Beauchamp, R. Simpson, P. Neaine, E., X , and S. Johnson, A. Simpson and G. Wilson. At the dance Messrs R. Simpson and E. Scheukell acted as attentive Ms.C, Mr F. C. Stratford supplying the music for the dance and accompanying the vocalists during the concert.

A meeting of the originators of the proposed Dairy Factory at Kenepuru was held at the Portage on Saturday last, Mr John Taylor presiding. Owing to a section of the intending milk suppliers withdrawing, it was decided to liquidate expenses incurred, and to conclude the intention as it has so far stood. There are bopes, however, of those feeling more keenly the necessity for the institution of the dairying industry at Kenepurn, making a further endeavor to bring the cooperation into existence.

The tender of Mr J. Ward, of Onamalutu, has been accepted by Mr T. H. Scott for the enlargement of the Post Office Hotel. Out of four tenders received there was a difference of £11 only. The alterations consist of an addition of six rooms and improvements to the existing building. The contract price has not been divulged.

Dr McArthur, S.M., held a special sitting of the Court to-day (Tuesday) to deal with old age pension business. The consideration of the S.M. in providing the veteran applicants an opportunity to quietly prosecute their claims, free from the turmoil of an ordinary Warden's and Police Court day surroundings, is gratefully commented upon and appreciated.
