THE GISBORNE RAILWAY.

OPENING CEREMONY.

Press Association. Electric Telegraph

Copyright.

Gisborne, June 26

The weather is gloriously fine for the opening of the railway, and there are crowds of people in town. The streets have been beautifully decorated with flags and evergreens brought in profusion from the bush.

At 9i30 a procession, in which the volunteers by special permission took part, was formed, and marched through the town to the station, where the school children were entrained.

The Hon. James Carroll, who declared the railway open, was presented with a gold key, and congratulatory speeches were made. A resolution was passed, for telegraphing to the Governor, conveying the sympathy of the great meeting at the King's illness, and also a resolution of congratulation to be forwarded to the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Railways. .
