HOW THE CAPTURE WAS
EFFECTED.
Received June 24, 0.10 a.m. Brisbane, June 23.
The Kenniffs' stole a bag of wheat from selectors near Mitchell. A party of four police and a couple of trackers traced them to some scrub.
Bootless, they surprised the camp before sunrise and shot two out of four of the Keuniffs' horses. Pat was unarmed and Jimmy had two loaded rifles. They bolted, the police firing. Pat fell unhit and was captured. Jimmy escaped into the scrub. The police was returning with the prisoner when Jimmy was again seen. The police keeping up a running fire, he ran to bay. Ordered to surrender, he agreed to do so if Pat was nob shot, adding "I am tired of this life." He was assured that Pat was all right. Jimmy then quietly gave up his rifles and surrendered.
The Kenniffs' camp was well stocked with ammunition and food.
