HAVELOCK NEWS.

The Sounds and Golden Bay Steamship Company, whose boats (the Manaroa and Te Kapu) have been engaged in the fortnightly Wellingfon-Havelock trade for the last three years, has addressed the following circular letter to its shareholders: —" Notice is hereby given that an extraordinary general meeting of the Sounds and Golden Bay Steamship Company, Limited, will be held at the office of Messrs Blackburne and Bendall, Victoria Street, Wellington, on Monday, 23rd instant, at 2,30 o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of considering and, if thought fit, passing the subjoined resolution: 'That the Company be wound up voluntarily under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1882, and amendments, and that William Brown, Managing Director of Messrs Laery and Co., Limited, be, and is, hereby appointed liquidator for the purpose of such winding up at the remuneration of fifty pounds (£so).' Mr H. B. Wynn Williams, of Manaroa, Sound delegate to the Marlborough Executive of the Farmers' Union, visited Havelock on Thursday in con. nection with a trip he is making through, the Sounds in the interests of the Union. In a conference with fhe local Secretary, he suggested that the Pelorus Sound, from Haveloek to Kenepuru, should be included in the latter branch, Havelock being the centre for settlers residing in the Mahau arm of the Sound. Mr Wynn-Williams will bring this suggested enlargement of the Havelock branch before the Executive at its next meeting on the 12th of July. .

Friends of Messrs T. Newman and H. L. Whitty, formerly proprietors of the Commercial and Masonic Hotels, Haveloelc, respectively, will be interested to heir, from sources worthy of credence, that Mr Newman is leaving the Trafalgar Hotel, Nelson, to enter into business at Greytown (Wairarapa) and will be succeeded in the proprietorship of the Trafalgar by Mr Whitty. The bachelors of Havelock and "district gave a ball at the Town Hall, Havelock, on Friday. Owing to the boisterous and drenching weather, ifc was impossible for visitors from the Sound or those residing at a distance to attend, but the hundred or so guests that faced the deluge spent an enjoyable evening, dancing to music supplied by Messrs Vannini (piano), Babbits (violin), and McDonald (cornet). Messrs P. Anderson and J, Glover made efficient Ms.C. Mr T. H. Scott catered for the supper in an ample and tasteful manner.
