FAREWELLING KITCHENER.
THE ZULUS
Received June 23, 8.44 a.m. London, June 22. Lord Kitchener was given an enthusiastic farewell banquet at Johannesburg. He appealed to employers to find lucrative employment for Rand volunteers. It has been arranged that five squadrons each of the First and Second Imperial Light Horse, Johannesburg Mounteds, Kitcheners' Scouts, and Scottish Horse shall retain their horses, rifles, and equipment without cost. The condition can be recalled by the military if required. Major-General Bruce Hamilton held an indaba of the Zulus at Vryheid. He explained that the British and Boers were now friends, and announced that magistrates would inquire into grievances with regard to cattle alleged to have been stolen. Ths Zulus expressed their loyalty, and promised to return to their homes.
