Mr P. A. McHugh, M.P., for North Leitrim, who was arrested on a charge of criminal conspiracy and intimidation, on being charged at Sligo, asked the Magistrates their names. The chairman, remarked that the question was intended to obstruct.

Mr McHugh retorted by calling the chairman "a damned liar." He declined to apologise to "sweeps of their kind," and was thereupon sentenced to three months' imprisonment for contempt.
