A public meeting in tho City Council Chumbers, presided over by the Mayor, resolved on the motion of the Mayor, seconded by the Hon. Mr Mitchelaon, that tho eminently patriotic and statesmanlike services rendered on behalf of >iew Zealand to the Empire in the late season of anxiety and stress by the Premier call for duo and cordial recog^ nition by the people of New Zealand. The people of Auckland resofve to tender the Premier fitting adequate recognition of such services prior to his departure for England. Ib was further resolved that the celebration should take tho form of a testimonial in the form of a purse of sovereigns. An influential committee was appointed to give effect to the resolution.
