A HEAVY SENTENCE.
Mangaweka, July 24.
Great indignation has beeu caused here by the imposition of a sentence of six months' imprisonment on an old settler named J. Gardner, for being drunk and using obscene language. A petition is being signed as a protest against the sentence. Gardner is the father of. a large family of young children.
