_. GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS

(Christchurch Press, July 20.)

The reduction in the freights for wheat by direct steamers to 20s per ton for vessels sailing up to the middle of next month, will no doubt cause a little more enquiry, but as holders are firm, and tho London maiket does not warrant increased prices at this end, it is probable that a good deal of the space avai able will bo taken up with wheat on consignment. There is very little offering, but outside of millers" requirements there has been no demand, no enquiry having been received from London for some weeks past.

The reduction in the freight for oats by direct steamer to London to 25s per ton. is not likely to have any appreciable effect on the local market, seeing that Africa affords the best outlet. Thero has been no business passing to speak of during the week. The potato market remains about the same, £4 10s being the best offer at country stations. A large amount of space was applied for by the Monowai for Sydney, and her shipment this week was expected to be a heavy one.
