REPORTED LOSS OF LIFE.

Received July 10, 12.18 p.m. Sydney, July 10.

The fire was discovered shortly after 8 o'clock, luckily before many of the army of employees had arrived.

It is reported that one man was killed in jumping from the roof.

Burning debris was carried a great distance, and fired a house, which was quickly subdued.

Hordern's Pitt Street side, the direction in which the wind was blowing, was flanked by the Park, which prevented further spread that way.
