Wellington, April 15. IVday the Midland K&ilway Commission took the evidence of S. Brown, of Wellington, who had a sub-contract under one of the English contractors for that portion of the Midland line from Stillwater's side of Arnold Bridge to the Reoltou side of Nelson Creek. The contract pi-ice was £31,521 15s 3d, and all that £rrnvn jjot out; of it was £1553, representing the profits of about a yoai- and a halt's work. Ho expressed the opinion that the money was spent unnecessarily by the Company owing to the supervision being entrusted to a Swede who failed to recognise the difference between tJie conditions of payment fpr labor in the colony and in his own country.
It was. intimated that other witnesses Avero on their way to WeHington for exainiiiation and the Commission, then adjourned its open sitting- for a day.
