Wellington, April 3.
The Hon. J. G. Ward stated 85 countries were agreeing.to allow New Zealand to send letters to thoir territories,'and only 12 h;id not agreed to allow letters to be sent back at the same rates. He looked forward to tho time when cable messages would bo sent to and from England and elsewhere at the same price as messages sent in the colony. If cable companies stood in the way they would have to give way to the State or State competition.
