THREATENING THE BOERS AT LAING'S NEK.
London, June 9. Qeperal Buller leporta that on Wednesday Major-General Coke, with the Tenth Brigade and South African Horse, seized Vanjyk Hill, ten miles northwest of Newcastle, »!ter much sniping. Tht British casualties were 4 killed, and 13 wounded. Two 4.7 and two naval guos were mounted at Vanjyk on Thursday, and two five-inch guns on the south* western spu? of Inkwelo, enabling M«jor-General Hildyard on Friday to assault all the spars between fiotWd Pass westwards of Vanjyk and Inkwelo. The attack was well planned and executed with immense dash. Precipitous mountains were scaled, and the enemy outflanked. They abandoned a very strong position. General Buller hopes that the position now held will render the Boers' position at Laing'j Nek untenable.
