HIGH SCHOOL.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS. - The High Sohool Board of Governors met after tbe conclusion of the meeting of the Education Board. There were present— Messrs J. Dunoan, R. MoOallum, J. H. Redwood, 0. EL Millß, W. B. Parker, and Capt Baillie. In tbe abeenoe ol Mr A. P. Seymour, Mr Dunoan was voted to the chair. < Accounts for £5 11s were passed for payment. Tbe aooount of Mr Huddl6Bton, architect, was held over for tho consideration of the Works Committee. Tbe letters written to and reoeived from the Architect with reference to the plans for the proposed High School building were read, and after an explanation by Mr McCallum.it was reßolved that the building question bo left m the bands of tho Works Committee to authorise the arobiteot to prepare plans and Bpeoifioatione for a building at a cost not to exceed £1000. Mr Huddleston reported having surveyed tbe western boundary of the ground purchased from Mrs Nosworthy and recommended the adoption of a suggestion from Mr Armstrong, soting Chief Surveyor, viz : that the Board should ask tbe Government to survey the whole property, including that presented by Mr T. Garter, so tbat a land transfer title could be obtained, and that the Chief Surveyor would strongly reaommend the Government to do so free of oharge. The Board resolved to comply with the suggestion, and to also request Mr C. H. Mills, M.H.R., to ÜBe bis influence m the same direction. Mr G. E. Wakelin wrote asking if evening olasses would be. held m commotion with tbe High Sohool to give those engaged during the day as opportunity to avail themselves of the teaching staff of tbat institution.—lt waa resolved to consider this qne&tion at a later date, Letters from the Secretaries of the Waimate and Timaru High Sohooh with information respecting those institutions, together with letters previously reoeived from Rangiora and AehbuftOD, were referred to the Works Committee. Tbe Seoretary provided members with lists Betting forth the names and other particulars of the 37 applicants for the position of Prinoi al of the High Sohool, and it was resolved that the Works Committee select some names to be forwarded to the Seoretary for Eduoation for bis opinion, and that tbe result be laid before a ! speoial meeting to be held on Monday, 19th February, at 10.30 a.m. It was arranged that the Works Committee meet this eveniDg to select the names.
