DISAPPOINTED MAORIS.
A LARGE TROOP AVAILABLE. *r a t J***™' February 12. Mr A. J. Alloni to-day interviewed the Hon Mr Carroll with reference to the refusal of the Government to v m Maori Hobepa to go with the Third Contingent. Hohepa is well eduoated, well drilled, a firsfc class horseman and a capital shot, and Colonel Penton, after putting Mm through his tests, expressed
personal regret at the necessity for exoluding him. Mi Carroll promised to allow that Hohapi should be sent. He is now on duty, having gone with the first squad of horses. One of the features of to-day's funotions was the number of Maoris present who expressed their sorrow at not being allowed to raise a native contingent. They could p'lt 500 men and horses m the field m a week, and 2000, if needed, m a month. Many would prov de their own equipment.
