GENERAL BULLER'S OPERATIONS.
THE REASON OF THE !R£'TIRBMENT. PREPARING FOR A FRESH ADVANCE. BOERS SOUTH OF THE TUGELA. A TURNING MOVEMENT SUSPECTED. London, February 12. With reference to the retirement of the British aoross the Tugela River, Lieut. • General LytteltOD, whose troops after severe fighting captured Vaal Erantz (the key of the lower ridges) reported to General Buller that there were no facilities for artillery on that hill, and that it would be difficult to maintain the lines of communication if an advance was pressed along that route. Winston Ohurohill, the war correspondent, reports that General Buller is preparing for a fresh advance. Apparently the troops have returned to Frere, the base of the present operations. The Boers have occupied Hill Broys Farm, south of the Tugela River, and within an hour's ride of Ohievely. Tbis move, combined with their activity m Zululand, has created an impression that a wide turning movement is intended, via Greytown. [Greytown, m Natal, is connected by road with both Colenso and Pietermaritzburg. It is, apparently, about 60 miles directly north of Pietermaritzburg m the direction of Zululand, and about 100 miles east of Colenso.]
