There ie great dissatisfaction expressed here at the Union Company withdrawing the steamer Mapourika, the present steamers being insufficient for the trade. The Chamber of Commerce passed the following resolution : — '* lhat this Chamber of Commerce deeply regrets the decision arrived at by the Union Company, and respeotfully requests the Direotors to re-consider their decision." Owing to the mode of tendering for supplies to Government the Chamber of Commerce passed the following :—" That this Chamber recommends the Government that when tenders are again called for supplies, sufficient notice be given to enable every merchant to tender, and that the authorities be requested to explain the circumstances more particularly attending the tender this week for supplies to the Milford road party, which were suspicious, and lead to the inference that the tenders were intended for one firm only." Several of the principal merchants characterised the proceedings as a monstrous job. It appears that (he tenderers had about L alf an hour to s^nd m a tender comprising over sixty linen, and it was stated that the lint bad been lying m the office for days before.
