It has been ascertained that General Cronje's force which was engaged at Magerefontein included 4000 Boers withdrawn from the eiege of Mafeking. Capetown,. December 15. Among those killed at the battle of Magersfontein were : — Colonel Ooode, cf the Black watch ; Col. Goff, of the Argylls ; Major P. Milton, of the Mounts Force. Among thoEr wounded were Col. Byron, and Lieut. Tiet, the golf champion. lord Winchester of the Coldstream Guards, who was among the killed at Magersfontein, served m the-Soudan m 1885 as aide-de-camp to Bir John McNeill. He was preeent at Haeheen and Tofrek, and at the destruction of Temai (medal with two clasps and Khedive'a Btar.) Major-General Andrew Gilbert Wauchope, 0.8., 0.M.G., who is alfo among the slain, was m his 54th year, and joined the " Blaok Watch" m 1865. He had been markedout for an important command since 1873, when he served with conapiouous gallantry at the AshaDti campaign, and was twice severely wounded. He was invariably found m the thick of the 6ght throughout the Egyptian and Nile campaigns, sustaining severe wounds at Teb and Kirbekan A' Scottish laird, he was the opponent of Mr Gladstone at Hid Lothian. General Wauehope's •election for 8ou«h Africa was a deserved recognition of his distin* guished services m Ashantee, Cyprus, Egypt and the Soudan. He was an excellent shot and rough rider.
