The weather during the past month has bean most disgreeable, a succession of ; heavy northerly winds blowing night and day, almost without intermission, and there is no present prospaot of nny ohange. There has been little or no rain, m fact the fall during the past three months was scarcely half the average. Auckland, December 13. Two candidates were proposed to whom to extend the call to St. David's Presbyterian Ohuroh. They were the Rev. Gray Dixon, M.A., Warriambool, (Victoria), and the Key. Jas Ohishoim, late of Milton (Owgo). The Rev. Dixon, by a majority of votes, reoeived the call, the salary being £400 a year. Woodvillb, December 13. An unusual case was brought before WLr Nortbcote, 8.M., to-day. A Sandel sued R. Eeeex, bookmaker, for the amount of a dividend on a race run at Bulls. Plaintiff alleged he sent word to put £1 on a certain horse, which won. The Magistrate refused to hear the case. He said it was outside Court matters altogether, and nonsuited plaintiff. Theßelk Ship-raising and Propeller Company have jusc concluded the purchase of a four-fifths interest m the wreok of the steamer Tasmania, and are making arrangements for the raising of the vessel with Belk's patent rubber bags as soon as they can be manufactured. Andther trial will also shortly be made Vf the new screw propeller, the preliminary trial of which m Gisborne some months ago was of great success. The Company have offnred the Home Government the right to use a thousand of their patent bags, free oi royalty, f.»r the construction of pontoon Judges m the Transvaal.
