The orew of two men \eported that the captain died when 600 miles from New Zealand, and they did not know where they were, and at their request the chief officer ( of the Waimaua was placed on board to brief? the vessel to Auckland. Wellington, November 22. Ah Tong was committed for trial i for the alleged theft of naturalisation | papers. In defence it was urged that the case was merely an act of revenge. This was the third time ' defendant had been prosecuted by the same party, and ovory time it was after some case m which he had , been engaged against it, ! Auckland, November 22. The enhanced value of flax is giving an impetus to the flax industry m the Waikato. Three new mills are being built. The first District Convention of the W.O.T.U. was opened m the Central Mission Hall to-day. Reports of brasohes at North Shore, Onehunga, Thames, and Waibi were received, giving details of operations m these districts. It was lesolved to urge the police to abate the social evil.
