In a recent issue of your paper I came across a paragraph on " Stoats and weasels attacking lambs," and m support giving an extract from a letter signed by Mr J. McGregor, which appeared m the Timaru Herald of 28th October last. I was somewhat surprised to see such a statement, and therefore I asked the local Inspector of Stock, Mr Deem, to see Mr McGregor on the subject. I give you a copy of his reply, as well as Mr McGregor's original letter and later one of 9th November. You will see the conclusions arrived at were premature, and his statement that the wounds must have been done by a stoat after the lambs were killed cannot be admitted. The reports tecim all quarters of the good work being done by the natural enemy are most gratifying, and the last sentence of Mr McGregor's letter is proof of this.
