A CURIOUS CHARGE. [UNITED FBBSB ASSOCIATION.] IJapieb, May 11. At the first meeting of the season i of the Philosophical Society, the Rev. ! W. Colenso advocated the establishment of a free public library and museum. He offered a site free, and towards the estimated cost of £4000 , offered an aggregate of £2000, on , condition that the whole amount was raised by the 31st of December. The Hospital Board to-day passed a resolution exonerating the honorary medical staff from certain charges made by the Evening News. A man named Bedingfield was arrested at Makotuku on a curious charge. He wrote a letter to a settler's daughter threatening bodily violence if she did not supply him with money or tobacco, which was to be left at a certain place. A trap was laid for him, resulting m his arrest.
