NEW MAIL SERVICE.
Received May 7, 1 1 a.m. London, May 6. In the House. Mr Hansbury, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said tenders for the Indian and Australian mail service would be invited at a minimum speed of 13£ knots. No European port of call was mentioned, but Mr Hansbury explained that if Marseilles showed better results than Brindisi the PostmasterGeneral would be free to choose that' route. Tenders for a fast CanadianEnglish service, to begin m May, 1898, will be received up to June 10th.
