The Coal Conference meets at 1 1 o'clock this morning, Alexander Brown, the proprietor of the now Lambton colliery has refused to attend, stating that it can only have a mischievous result. He adds that the minors are entitled to an advance m wages, as the owners oau sail as much coal at 9a per ton as at the present cut- throat pvioe. The wheelers' difficulty at the Seaham colliery has been settled. April 22. After a lonjr discussion between miners and colliery owners, the Premier presiding, the owners submitted the following proposal to the miners : — That they continue work for biz months, during which the conference stands adjourned till 9th September, when the question of an increase m the hewing rate will be disouased. In the meantime all collieries represented at the conference guarantee that no further i eduction m wages be made until the end of 1897, and probably not th en . Miners and delegates resolved to submit the proposal to the Lodges for their approval. Received April 23, 10.55 a m. April 23. The votini? re the striking will be completed to-morrow night. Miners are dissatisfied with the result of the conforenoe, as they consider they have waited long enough, The general opinion is that they will refuse to endorse the result, and will strike on Monday.
