POLICE PROSECUTIONS.
[UNITED PBSBB ABSOOIA XION.] Dunbdin, September 19. A charge of Sunday trading against Jessie Guinness, licensee of the Douglas Hotel, was dismissed. Invercargill, September 18. The charge against Jas. Bridge, Princess Hotel, of allowing his premises to be used as a brothel, was dismissed. On the other charge, of permitting women of ill-repute to remain longer on the premises than was necessary for refreshments, he was fined JBS and costs. An appeal against Mr Paynton's decision is probable. Christchurch, September 18. At the Police Court to-day, Joseph Eountree, a prohibited person, was fined £5 with the alternative of one month's imprisonment, for obtaining liquor from the licensee of the Clarendon Hotel. A charge against the licensee of supplying liquor was dismissed, as it was shown that he did not know that Bountree was prohibited. "William Jonas was fined 50s for falsely representing himself as a traveller.
