Wellington, January 22. There is magniiioent weather to day for the holiday, but the breeza ia very light, unless it increases the latter will interfere with the Regatta.

When the boats m the first and seoond olass yacht raceß started it was a dead calm, and the boats lay almost motionless off the starting point. In about half an hour, however, a fresh southerly breeze strang up, and the boats were Boon off at a fair pace.
For the first class championship, the Lyttelton yaoht Pastime is leading, with the Waitangi second, and the Masootte third.
In the first olass race on the beat to the entrance of the harbor lhe new yaoht Wai* tangi exhibited splendid pace, and overhauling the Pastime assumed a strong lead, the Masootte also coming up and passing the Pastime.
There is Etili a fine steady breezy and if it lasts the Waitangi is almost sure to improve her position and win easily. In the second class race the Napier yacht Atalanta has a good lead, with the laca second.
