The following is an extract from the Mablborough Expkess report of the proceedings at the Marlborough Agricultural and Pastoral Association Show, of 1892 :-" In the horse class Mr Stevens' judging was received favorably, and the pains he took m thoroughly examining the horses presented to him, showed that he intended to be careful as well as impartial, and as a great deal of interest was shown hi the thoroughbred judging it may be as w^ll to give Mr Stevens' opinion of " Merrie King," the horse which won the championship against Catesby. This horse which by the way was bred by Mr C. Redwood, and is by King Cole, Mr Stevens thinks when full grown will be hard to beat on any ground m the Colony, and he shows now that he is the proper stamp from which to breed racehorses."
