+ THE SYDENHAM CASES. [UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION 1 CIIRtSTCHURCH, AugUSt 22. In the Magistrate's Court this morning Mr Beetham gave jeJgaseut ia Armstrong v. Hadfield, which was a case brought to to-fc the validity of the licenses heid by the Borough of Sydenham by Hadfield, Money, and Traynor. Mr HadQeld had been charged with supplying a flask of bran :y to the informant, not being at the time a person licensed to sell spirits. After dealing with the arguments adduced at the hearing Mr Beethatu said: "If this Court holds on the faots tafors it that tba certificate aud license were illegally issued, then I ought to convict I saa no possibility of arriving at any other conclusion, aided as I have been m the matter by the judgment of Mr Justice Denniston. As this is a test case, there is no necessity to inflict a heavy fins. The defendant was convicted and fined £5 la with coats. Notioe of appeal was given.
