Ward o and b Giffen . . 55 Jaokson not out . . . . 49 W Read not out .. ..21 Sundries 20 Total for five wicket9 . . 378 In the early part of the iuning3 the batsmen were thoroughly set, and Trott, M'L9od, and Bruce were tried in addition to Turner and Trumble. Eventually Turner and Trumble resumed the bowling and effeoted a separation. The fielding of the team at this time was brilliant, especially that of Graham, Stoddart gave two difficult ohanoes, and was missed when ha had soored five. Neither Grace nor Stoddart were at ease at the start, and made several luaky hits, but they soon settled down to quiet and stylish crickat. Shrewsbury and Ward put on 103 runs before Shrewsbury was nicely taken at long on by Graham. He wa3 batting for two hours and a half, and his soore included nine fours. Ward played a vigorous innings, and in driving Giff on, fell a victim to ths bonier, who ma.de a splendid oaehanded oatoh high ia the air. Jackson played a dashing innings, though Gregory missed an easy high drive, when he had scored 35.
