Beportß from Nelson country districts show that considerable damage was done by a flood last Saturday. Bridges have been seriously damaged, and the local bodies will be put to large expense m effecting repairs. Tbe farmer m Japan who has 10 acres of land is looked upon as a monopolist. It m said that the yoang Earl of Dudley holds the largest lite insurance ever effected, the amount being about £1,200,000. One of the best things said about the variability of Wellington weather is that no one need leave the city for change of climate. He need only wait a day or two, and he is sure to get it, without any trouble or expense. The Southland Times gleefully records the faot that a weasel has be6n made a welcome guest m the office, as it cleaned out the rats thst ate tbe editor's paste and the printer's roller composition.
