Ik some of the American States large prizes are given by Horticultural Societies for encouraging the production of new fruits, flowers, and vtgetablee. As a sample of the prizes offered, reference may be made to the list of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. These amounts are worthy of the name of prz-8, and should cacne considerable competition. Added toge'her, ths figures come to an aggregate amouot of £172, offered for not quite a score of new productions.
