A MODEL CONFESSION.

But they w«rt good people, and pressed the lawyer to coras before tha church meeting and own up hit sin of taking a glass too much, for they •wera temperance people, and abhorred intemperance. The sinner finally went to confession, and found a large gathering of brethren and sisters, whose bowed heads roBB and whose oyes glistened with pure dtlight as the lawyer began his confession : — "I confess," he said, "that I never took ten p«r cent far money." On that confession down went a brothel's head with a groan. " I never turned a poor man from my door who needed food and shelter." Down west another head. "I confess I ntter sold skim- milk cheese for a naw one." Whereupon a woman shrieked for mercy. "I confess that I have never been Pharisaical and self-righteous, and hara not sought to injure or persecute those who have not happened to agrea with ma; when down dropped numerous heads. " I confess that I have never played the hypocrite, and do sot lis, and that I have not used religion as > cloak;" when down went several other beads, and among thsm the head 3of the very ones who were anxious that he should confess. "But,"coneloded the sinner, "I have been drunk, and I am very sorry for it." Whereupon the meeting quietly dispersed. ■
