THE BANK OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA. THE LEADERSHIP. CHRISriE MURRAY BANKRUPT. (CJNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) London, October 14. Mr Babbage, one of the shareholders of the Bank ofj South Australia, considers that the recent circulars issued by the j directors as to the Bank's position are un- j satisfactory, and also that their proposals are alarming. He therefore proposes to move that a Committee of seven be appointed to make an independent scrutiny of the Bank's position, and report within two months. The Daily News favors Mr Balfour's claims to the leadership of the House of Commons m the absence of Lord Randolph Churchill. The Chronicle protests against one noble family ruling England. It is believed that the London Post Office officials are not; m favor of the Salonica mail route. It is rumored that General Sir Evelyn Wood succeeds General Sir Frederick Roberts as commander-in- chief m India. Cardinal Manning exhorts French Catholics to be loyal to the Republic. The Chinese Minister m England urges the appointment of Chinese consuls m the British colonies. The New Zealand Shipping Company's new steamer Ruahine will be launched at Dumbarton on ths 20th inst. Mr David Christie Murray, the novelist has been adjuged a bankrupt. The Countess of Russell intends to sue for a judicial separation from her husband.
