THE ROME RIOTS.
THE POPE DISTRESSED. [UNITED PBEBS ASSOCIATION.] Rome, October 5. The Pope has notified his regret to the French Government at the behaviour of the pilgrims which led to the scene m the Pantheon. The Bishops have issued a circular discouraging a pilgrimage to Rome. The crowd invaded the Pantheon and made violent speeches against the Pope. His Holiness was much distressed at this' outburst of popular indignation. Public protests were made at Leghorn Florence, and Bolonga against the insult to Victor Emmanuel. On the motion of Menotti Garibaldi, the veterans of the Italian War of Independence passed a resolution m favour of abolishing the article m the constitution making Romanism the State religion.
