CAN CANCER BE CURED ?
COUNT CHALLENGES THE JDOCTOBS. A very interesting article appears m the January number of the Review of Reviews on the subject of one of the most terrible of . all diseases, "Cancer." The medical faculty have hitherto plainly declared it to be "incurable." What a horrible significance the word has! Count Mattei, an Italian nobleman, claims to have cured cancer not m one but m. many instances. He is a rich man who began a course of scientific study at middle age, and the first clue to his alleged wonderful medicine is said to have been arrived &t by watching a sheepdog afflicted with a virulent attack of mange. The dog absented itself daily, and curiosity led Mattei to follow it; when he found that it made for the mountain and there scratched up and ate a particular root. Mr Stead, the editor of the Eeview of Beviews, heard so much from persons of note as to the efficacy of Mattel's treatment that m the public interest he went over to Bolonga to interview the cpunt, and relates the result of his researches. Should Count Mattel's specific prove to be all that is claimed for it, it will no doubt become as great a public boon as the famous fert. Jacobs Oil, which has effected so many marvellous Qnjoß m cases of nervous affections, t \oh as
rheumatism, neuralgia, muscular contusions, &c. St. Jacobs Oil has become a household word throughout the civilised world, and has' been the means of rescuing thousands from pain and misery. All who have tried it agree that it is a valuable domestic remedy that should have a place m every well-regulated household. 2
