KAIKOURA RACES.
(From the Star.)
The Blenheim horse, Clyde, won a good double, though with a more expert rider up Black Gin would probably have turned the tables on him m the Hurdles, and the receipt of such a heavy difference as a stone m weight enabled Clyde to put Rimu down m the Handicap. Hurdle Race Handicap, of £20, second horse to receive £3 from stake. Distance 1£ miles, over 6 flights of hurdles about 3ft 6in high. 18 C. All jumped splendidly, the race being the best m this respect ever witnessed here. Clyde appeared to have the race m hand throughout, but Black Gin nearly upset the pot, Clyde only winning by a bare half length, all out, from Glapk Gin. Miss Clyde, who was splendidly ridden by Prior m the last quarter of a mile, came very fast at the finish, a length behind Gin, Time, 3min 30sec. The quartette ran almost locked together the first round, at a fair pace, then Clyde forged ahead, at increased speed, with Rimu handy, _ Miss Clyde next. This order was maintained to the finish, Clyde winning by two clear lengths with something to spare, the heavy weight telling on Rimu, who ran a big horse, but it was too much to ask a small horse like him to give one such as Clyde 141bs over the distance on a heavy course.
