Loneon, May 20. Dr. Maclagan, Bishop of Lichfield, has accepted the Archbishop of York.

The Queen has approved of the appointment of Dr. Maclagan to the Archbishopric of York.

[The Right Rev. Dr. Maclagan, the successor of the late Dr. Magee to the Archbishopric of York, ia the son of David Maclagan, M.D., a distinguished medical officer who served m the Peninsular War. He was born m 1826, and m early life served m the Army, reaching m the rank of lieutenant. Retiring m 1852, ho went through the University course at St. Peter's College, Cambridge (B.A. 1856, M.A. 1860, D.D., jure dignitatis, 1878). He was ordained deacon m 1856, and prieat m 1857. _ He served m the curacies of St. Saviour, Paddington, and St. Stephen, Marylebohe, till 1830, when he was appointed Secretary to the London Diocesan Church Building Society. In 1869 h« was given the Rectory of St. Mary, Mornington, and then was promoted to the Vicarage of St Mary Abbots, Kensington. In 1878 he succeeded Dr. Selywn as Bishop of Liohfield. He is known as the author of several religious works.]
