NEW YEAR HONORS.

The following New Tear honors are gazetted :—Profe3sor McCoy, of Melbourne University, Mr Thomas Sutherland, Chairman of the P. and 0. Company, General Edwards, and Mr Braddon, Agent-General of Tasmania, to be Knight Commanders of St Michael and Bt George, Messrs Walter Hennaway, John Roberts, President of the Dunedin Exhibition, and Mr Jenkins, Clerk of the Victorian Parliament, to be Companions of the same Order; Amongst. other promotions, Sir Francis Sandford and Sir Edward Guinness are raised to the Peerage, and Sir Hercules Robinson and Sir Henry t Rawlinson become baronets. ■■-■'■■_ - ■' [The names are mostly those of well known men, whose services , render the honors received no matter of surprise. Sir Walter Kenna way's name has appeared frequently m Anglo-Colonial .matters. Mr _ Roberts' services at Dunedin. aje of too >^ recent date to have been forgotten, and the companionship granted Mr Jenkins ia no doubt due to his official position. Sir Edward Guinness' promotion to the peerage is a kind» of . set-off to Lord Hindlip'a elevation from an Allsop; Sir Hercules Robinson's name is too well known to need any mention of bis calonial'services, and Sir Henry Rawlinsori's career, both diplomatic and literary, fully entitles him to diplomatic honors.]- \ ; /
