The House met at 11 a.m. PBOTECTION OF FREE LABOR. Eeplying to Mr Mackenzie (Clutha), as to whether Government intended taking some steps for affording protection to the citizens of Wellington at the present crisis of affairs, Captain EUSSELL said he bad reason to believe that steps were being taken which would prevent a recurrence of any disturbances such as those which occurred yesterday. He understood a number of special, cod stables were being sworn, but that was of course more a matter for Justices than the Defence Department. Those special constables would afford protection for free labor m every possible way. NATIVE LAND LAWS. The Native Land Laws Amendment Bill was further considered m committee, and passed with some additional clauses. On the motion for third reading, Sir GEOEGE GEEY said he considered it his duty to oppose at every step so monstrous a Bill, which for years to come would ruin the prospects of every laborer m the Colony. He moved an amend ment, "That counsel be heard at the bar of the House against the measure." The amendment was lost on the voices, and the Bill read a third time and passed. FEDERAL RESOLUTIONS. Mr PEECIVAL resumed the debate on the federation resolutions. He moved an amendment, That two delegates be ; appointed from the House and one from the Council, but delegates were not to bind this Colony to come under any federal constitution which may be adopted by the convention. Mr STEWAED (Waimate) seconded the amendment. The debate was interrupted by the 1 j p.m. adjournment. i
