FARMERS ' HORSES
At this season of the year, when fanner's horses are put to hard work, their shoulders'are very liable to gall.. We lately came across a farmer whose horses are never affected m that way, although he is noted for working his teams severely. The teams had just returned from 'the field.and the farmer waa 'Engaged' at one and his man at the other, sponging their shoulders with" cold' water. ' This is' done every time' they come into the stable after hard work, and freedom from shoulder abrasions, and consequent comfort of the animals, is the natural result. farm horses come m from labor, m the spring especially, it may be observed that they try to rub first one shoulder and then the other against the stall. The wear at this point causes the animal to feel exceedingly uncomfortable, and humane men will not .withhold : from them the cooling, 1 soothing influence of" a little' cold water; Nine times out of ten a galled shoulder is produced by poor fitting, collars or bad grooming. With a good collar that fits a horse, good currying and brushing every day so as to remove all the dust from his shoulders, and washing the shoulders with cold water, to which' salt maybe added, will keep aliorses shoulders from being galled. 'It should be considered a serious fault for a man 1 having a team m charge to permit theshoulders of the : ho'rses to be galled.— Leader.
